I'm looking for an IDE for Powershell.  Can the IDE in Visual Studio handle PowerShell?

PowerGUI has a script editor included with it - http://powergui.org

Sapien has PrimalScript - http://www.primalscript.com

and ShellTools has the PowerShell Suite - PowerShell Analyzer and PowerShell+ - http://www.powershell.com/

I've only personnally used the PowerGUI script editor and the ShellTools Suite. I haven't had an opportunity to try the Sapien PrimalScript offering yet.

There are some plugins to Visual Studio to use PowerShell for debugging, but I don't believe it has support for PowerShell scripting.

Visual Studio isn't an IDE for Powershell unfortunately.  It will help you create cmdlets using c# etc but not powershell scritps.

I highly recommend looking into some of the community created IDEs:

Powershell Analyzer: http://www.powershell.com/analyzer/

PowershellPlus: http://www.powershellplus.com

PowerGui: http://www.powergui.org/index.jspa

I have been using Primal Script and love it. My 45-day evaluation has ended. I have a request in for a purchase but and still waiting to see if it is approved.

In the in-between I am looking for a good freebie.

The PowerGUI product (which is free) script editor should work for you. And depending on your environment, PowerShell Plus is free for non-commercial use.
